Have You Heard All The Talk About The HCG Diet?

By Riley T. Simonis

The special drops used in together with lowered daily calorie intake constitute the HCG diet. On a low calorie diet, the body burns up the day's calorie intake faster and begins to burn fat as a source of fuel instead. The supplements used in the diet help to maintain muscle mass and burn only fat where a low-calorie diet alone might affect muscles before fat is used. HCG drops help in easing any negative side effects, like irritability or fatigue normally associated with low-calorie diets. While on the HCG diet, the body restructures the way it usually uses stored fat and regular calorie intake. There are three stages in the special diet starting with the introduction phase, the training phase, and the final maintenance phase.

The special diet starts off with a high calorie intake while beginning use of the HCG drops supplement. The body's fat regulation process is altered in this initial phase to help ensure that, during the lower calorie intake phase of the diet, the metabolism will burn fat. The higher calorie intake at the start of the diet also helps to reduce hunger during the low-calorie portion of the diet. The special diet's second portion, consisting of low-calorie intake, forces the body to burn excess fat when the daily calories are used up as a fuel source.

Once the drops have triggered the body's metabolism to restructure as a fat-burning machine, the maintenance phase of the diet commences. When the maintenance portion of the special diet begins, drops are no longer needed as calorie intake returns to normal.

The increase in calorie intake should be conducted slowly as the restructured fat-handling procedure adjusts to a higher calorie intake. Weight should be monitored closely during this time to ensure that the results of the diet are maintained and the reintroduction of normal calorie intake is not inhibiting the metabolism's changed procedure.

Since the diet plan includes low calorie intake, it is recommended that the physical activity portion of the diet consist only of light exercise. Heavy exercise could cause fatigue and starvation as the body burns the few calories it has for energy faster. The hormones in the drops will not affect a woman's menstrual cycle, and there are no other known side effects from the program. Pregnant women are not advised to use the diet, as they are likely to see little to no results because of higher calorie intakes necessary for nourishment during pregnancy.
