Smooth Away those Lines with Botox

By Craig Nevilt

To smooth away the frown lines between the eyebrows that both men and women get in middle age, and for other facial wrinkles, Botox can be used under prescription. It is most often used in order to smooth out lines. Most people have this type of cosmetic improvement because they feel the lines on their forehead make them look tired or even angry.

You should not consider this treatment if you have an allergy to any of the ingredients of Botox. You shouldn't go ahead if there is an infection in the skin surrounding the area being injected - as common sense dictates. Before a treatment, tell your physician if you have any issues such as asthma that affect your breathing.

How does it work?

Usually, wrinkles in the skin form beside a muscle that is close to it, normally beneath it.Botox injected into those muscles restricts nerve impulses going to the tissue that is causing the wrinkle. So, little muscle movement results in the skin supported by the muscle stopping being creased by constant expression contractions. Inhibited muscle contractions means that lines and wrinkles stop forming. As a result, with fewer wrinkles and frown lines the person has a more youthful look.

Botox injections is a non-invasive procedure that is often used for wrinkles, and it takes less than 30 minutes. The site to be treated receives an injection of a small amount of Botox. The nerve signals to the muscles under the skin are blocked by the Botox when it starts working. The skin is smoothed, causing facial lines to diminish, because the muscle therefore relaxes.

One normally minor side effect from the Botox Injection Treatment is slightly red and sore skin for a few days. A patient can usually leave the clinic straight away and return to work the same day. Within 3 days the treatment usually starts to work, but the full effect may take up to a week.

Post-Treatment

After your procedure, the first thing you need to do is try to exercise your treated muscles for one to two hours. You should practice squinting, frowning and raising your eyebrows. This helps work the Botox into your muscles. This can be helpful, but if you forget or don't have the time, it won't impact your results negatively.

Be careful not rub or massage those areas that have been treated and do not do yoga, heavy lifting or any type of strenuous exercise for four hours after the treatment. Moreover, do not ingest Advil, Tylenol or vitamin D after the procedure.

And don't be concerned if you see some tiny bumps or marks on your face after the procedure. Within a few hours they will go away.

Make sure whoever is doing your Botox treatment is trained specifically in this procedure. These treatments are medical procedures and need to be viewed as such.
